Things you Need to Know before your First Trip to Paris

Paris, the city of lights is a dream destination for all Americans. Before going for a private Paris tour, there are few little things to keep in mind. Read ahead to know these things.
Learning Basic French
As you prepare for your vacation, it is important to learn some basic French. It can help make your trip comfortable. A lot of French people do speak English in big cities like Paris, but you should not go without learning some basic words in their local language. You don’t need to be fluent in French to communicate with Parisians, but knowing the basics will make a huge difference. Therefore, learn at least some of the commonly used words.
Tipping
Tipping is not a duty or commitment in restaurants in Paris. If you receive great service you can think about leaving 5 – 10% of the bill as tip. If you get a rude service, you may not leave a tip. Tipping is entirely left to your decision.
Opening Times of Restaurants
If you’re used to eating earlier, you will be comfortable in Paris as majority of the bars and cafes open early, around 7 or 8 am, although you won’t see too many Parisians at that time. Lunch is usually served between 1 to 2 pm. In case if you are starving and the cafes are shut, move into a bakery or bread shop for a sandwich or coffee.
Due to some regulations, most shops, pharmacies and groceries in Paris stay closed on Sundays. However, in areas with lots of tourist traffic, many shops and shopping centers opens on Sundays for limited hours. If you see a shop and you need to check out, go ahead and do it as it might not be opened later.
Public Transport
Public transport will take you everywhere in Paris city. There is no charge for children under the age of 4 and half fare will be charged for children between the age of 4 and 11. Keep in mind that the doors of the metro will not open automatically.
